Torben Kärst was born in Lübeck in 1982 and started his musical education at the age of six.
Apart from learning to play the oboe and the piano he was also trained in conducting.
At the age of twelve he began to develop his passion for the theatre, when he appeared as
a soloist in the scenic debut performance of Paul McCartney's "Liverpool Oratorio".
In the end his huge interest in technics and engineering landed him behind the stage.

Even before he started his academic studies of sound and video engineering in Düsseldorf,
which he graduated in 2011 as Diplom-Ingenieur (FH), Torben had been working for
various theatre productions. Since 2005 he has been working as freelance sound designer
at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus collaborating with directors like Frank Panhans,
Sebastian Baumgarten, Stefan Bachmann, Franziska Steiof and Karin Henkel.
